Significant Native Trees in Ontario

GEOM99 - Web Alpha

Problem Statement

Ideal

There is a web map showing the significant trees on public land across Ontario for people to visit and for conservation purpose. People can also contribute to the project by adding in examples of significant trees they come across

Reality

There is currently no web map showing the significant trees

Consequences

People are unaware of the significant trees in Ontario, and the trees might be harmed due to this lack of knowledge

Proposal

Create a web map with an easy-to-use submission form for the public to record signficant trees in their area and plot them on the map

Approval Status

Approved.

Introduction

Now What?

To reconcile the lack of mapping of significant trees in ontario, this solution aims to provide a platform for the public to submit trees locations and relevent information in their local area. Autopopulated onto a web map application for all users to view at their pleasure. The main components necessary to accomplish a solution, include building a web map and submission form. Details of each step are available on the Process page, and the products created available in Deliverables.

Project Objectives

- Create KoboToolbox Submission Survey

- Web Map Application

- Github Automation

So What Do I Do?

Head on over to Deliverables for the survey and add in the significant trees in your area! Then checkout the significant trees map! Please be aware this map updates on a scheduled basis, and your tree may not appear immediately.
